Volunteers and Interns

Since voluntarism forms the backbone of our efforts and work, we are constantly seeking support from different sectors of the communities to engage in active participation. Volunteers and interns bring great diversity and expertise to the organization and therefore invaluable in helping us serve communities and advance our projects.

Specifically, the internships with Svaraj are designed to:

To offer graduate and post-graduate students, from diverse academic backgrounds, the opportunity to further their education in development-related issues and non-profit work throughhands-on experiences; and

To provide the organization with highly motivated and talented students in key initiatives. As for this reason, the Internship Programme is designed for students with exceptional analytical and research skills who are capable of diligent work.

We provide opportunities for volunteers and interns from diverse professions and institutions all around India including the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Delhi School of Social Science, Commits and Action Aid. We also seek support and have received interns from institutions all across the globe including Sweden, UK, USA, Canada and Korea.

We integrate our interns and volunteers extensively within our programmes, providing any necessary training and orientation. Some projects include:

Some projects include:
  • Working with the Resource Mobilization team to increase Svaraj’s donor base
  • Assisting and helping organize fund raising events
  • Developing material for publicity and mass distribution
  • Helping spread awareness of the organization within the community
  • Getting involved in advocacy – lobbying, organizing marches, rallies, etc.

Interns should however, specify their areas of interest. Svaraj will try its best to mould programs around the intern’s areas of interests.

Eligibility:
  • Students eligible for the Internship Programme much fit the following criteria:
  • Must be currently enrolled in recognized colleges, universities and institutions of higher learning
  • Applications must be duly forwarded by the Principal/Dean/Registrar of the College/University/Institution in which the student is currently studying.
  • Commitment to full-time work for at least one month.
Necessary documents:
  • A letter from the college /institution for internship
  • Statement of intent indicating proposed work
  • A resume showcasing relevant academic accomplishments, work experience, language studies, volunteer experience etc. Please include contact details.
Duration:

The internship but last a minimum of one month and can extend upto a maximum period of six months.

Facilitation:

There will be a person, mentor or Divisional Head responsible for each Intern

Candidates admitted to Svaraj for the above mentioned internship will not normally be issued any equipment. If for any purpose, the equipment is issued to them, the same is to be well used and returned to Svaraj in good condition.

Svaraj will not be responsible for any casualty/mishap including any type of accident and resultant death or injury to body or any other type of loss of property etc, to the candidate while working at the Svaraj office or in the field during tour or transit.

Svaraj will not provide any medical facility to the above interns. It is advised that the interns may obtain their individual insurance (life, accident and medical) to cover any exigencies.
